Our Installation Specifications

  • Duct Board Plenums - Shall use only approved duct board start collars.

  • All duct board and metal plenums shall use minimum:
    4" depth - start collars 5" - 9"
    8" depth - start collars 10" - 20"

  • All duct board and metal start collars shall be sealed to plenum with approved duct seal mastic.

  • All Start Collars - Shall have flex duct attached as follows:
    1. Minimum of 2 full wraps of approved duct tape to the inner-liner.
    2. Tie-wrap installed over tape and duct liner tightened with Malco or similar tension tool.
    3. Outer jacket with duct insulation over collar with secured tie-wrap or approved duct tape.

  • Plenums/Coils - Shall be air sealed to the air handler with approved seal, screws, approved metal tape, duct sealer, etc.

  • T-Y's
    1. Shall have minimum of 4" throat at all connecting points.
    2. All flex duct shall be sealed to Y's as per same start collars.
    3. Two wraps approved duct tape to inner-liner.
    4. Tie-wrap over duct tape tightened with Malco or similar tension tool.
    5. Outer jacket pulled over complete branch with insulation and secured with tie-wrap or approved tape.
    6. All T-Y's 10" and larger shall be 28 gauge minimum.
    7. All to be sealed at connecting points to prevent duct leakage.

  • Pants Y's
    1. All pants Y's 10" shall be 28 gauge minimum
    2. Shall have minimum of 4" throat at all connecting points.
    3. All to be sealed as T-Y's with approved duct tapes - tie wraps.

  • Return Air - Minimum 60 square inches per ton required. Return Air: 2 story homes shall have a minimum of 2 each return air grills for one system. The location shall be 1 each lower level and 1 each upper level. The upper level return is to eliminate stacking of hot air. Note: With a 2 system home an additional return air grill is required for the upper level system.
    Return air shall be ducted if at all possible.
    1. If duct cannot be installed the chase area shall be fully drywalled, metal or duct board lined.
    2. The return air chamber shall be completely sealed, no leakage. Drywall tapes and mud or duct board tapes and air seal at all joints.

  • Metal Return Air - All metal flat stock over plates or floor sheeting shall be sealed with duct sealer on bottom and top to prevent air leakage.

  • Metal Start Collar - Attached to metal flat stock shall be a minimum of 6" in height for proper flex duct seal. Note: Proper flex duct installation to collar.

  • Flex Duct Strapping - All duct shall be strapped with a minimum of 1-1/2 times wrap of approved minimum width strapping (1-1/2"). Duct strapping shall follow per manufacturer's installation instructions.

  • Flex Duct
    1. Shall not be crushed or smashed to fit into a space that alters its shape.
    2. Radius at center line shall not be less than one duct diameter.

  • Horizontal Air Handler
    1. All horizontal air handlers shall be raised a minimum of 3" off the platform.
    2. Shall be secured to platform with minimum 1-1/2" 26 gauge strap or equal.
    3. Shall have minimum 30" clearance in front of air handler.

  • Air Handlers Return Air Plenum - Shall not be less than 4" in height to insure proper air return to blower motor.

  • Horizontal Evaporator - All shall have an additional external safety drain pan tied into secondary drain.

  • Registers - Minimum type shall be stamped 3 way with damper. It is suggested that open bar be used in 12x6 - 14x8 areas to insure maximum air coverage.

  • Condensing Units
    1. Shall be attached to the plastic pad with truss clips or equal.
    2. Shall be started per manufacturers recommendations. Super heat or approach method only.
      (Not 65 lbs suction, beer can cold)
